Our hearts go out to the devastation and huge loss of life in Nepal and the country is rightly at the center of a huge international response. But 66 people died in India most of whom were in Bihar ,and hundreds were injured. Today May 12th another huge quake was felt here in Bihar which brought further deaths and devastation to already poor villages .Help is needed at a local level to help the victims rebuild their lives, working together effectively and directly with the victims.
The Trust has experience of working effectively at grass roots level with local people and the local administration in disaster recovery following our very successful flood appeal on GlobalGiving several years ago here https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/help-flood-victims-in-bihar-india The families involved are numbered in the hundreds and whist some local immediate relief has been given these families are going to need help to rebuild their lives.
We intend to help the affected families by helping them rebuild their homes, providing animals to replace those that have been killed or injured, provide help with starting small shops or enterprises.working very closely at local level. Some children have been orphaned and we will ensure that they are well cared for We need to support the women particularly , Help the woman of the family and you help all. There is not a single appeal for the Bihar victims of the earthquakes on GlobalGiving..
We work in areas of great poverty where sometimes it is difficult for people to see hope. Women can be terribly isolated often with no one to turn to for help or support. We intend to respond in a very careful and thoughtful way to help the victims rebuild their lives in a sustainable way whilst offering immediate emergency assistance as required. The women and children will be our priority and we will work with them and affected villagers and families at a very local level.
