Poverty, weak infrastructure, and limited services in Mwanza and nearby regions trap families in cycles of poor health. Nearly 2,500 children in Mwanza live on the streets, struggling daily for food and safety. With scarce emergency care and no regular access to medical services, preventable injuries and illnesses become fatal. Stigma, poverty, and lack of protection deepen health inequities, leaving vulnerable children and families without essential care when they need it most.
This project will expand emergency and street medicine to 5,000 people, including 2,500 street-connected children. Over 80% of clients seek care at primary facilities like the Bisou Bailey Medical Dispensary. Funds will train first responders, strengthen referrals, provide medical supplies, and deliver mobile clinics, ensuring timely care, reducing preventable deaths, and improving health equity for vulnerable families and children.
By strengthening emergency and street medicine, this project will reduce preventable deaths and build sustainable, community-centered healthcare in Mwanza. Over 5,000 people, including 2,500 street-connected children, will benefit from trained first responders, stronger referral systems, and accessible care at facilities like Bisou Bailey Medical Dispensary, creating lasting health equity, resilience, and improved well-being for vulnerable families for years to come.
