A life saving ambulance that will be used for transportation of dying children who need urgently oxygen and blood transfusion. This ambulance will also be in used to transport and give first aid to mothers in labour pain, mothers with complications after giving birth, and other major urgent maternity surgical procedures. This ambulance will be able to have a small laboratory and blood cross-matching equipment for urgent blood transfusion. The ambulance will be operated by doctors and nursers.
Hundreds of children and new mothers lose their lives because there is no emergency transportation to the hospital. Ambulances are still not common in Uganda. Whisper's new ambulance is due to arrive in April 2023, but we will need funds to be able to run it. Until the ambulance arrives we transport our critically sick patients for free, in a car that is very unsuitable for critically sick patients, who are supported on oxygen. The lack of space in a car can make resuscitation difficult too.
Whisper's Emergency Ambulance will allow our medical team provide life-saving resuscitation of patients right from the ambulance during its often very long journey to the hospital. Mothers who had serious complications during birth delivery, will be able to get safely to the hospital and given all necessary medical treatment that starts right from the ambulance. Dying anaemic children will be able to have their blood transfused in the ambulance.
Whisper will be transporting patients free of charge. Whisper will start something that no other medical centre in Uganda or hospital does, and it is to provide a free accident and emergency transportation to the patients in critical stage. Our ambulance will help minimise the death rate of children and mothers, who would have arrived too late and maximise the chances to save lives of dying newborn babies, anaemic children and new mothers.
