Challenge

The needs are immense: 4.8 million people have been affected, 600,000 homes destroyed, and over 7,000 injured. Flooding caused by the cyclone has destroyed 318,140 acres of crops in the area and rendered virtually all of the water from local sources undrinkable because of increased salinity. Funds generated through Global Giving will support BRAC’s short-term relief and longer-term rehabilitation projects. These activities are outlined in greater detail below.

Solution

DELIVERY OF: - Emergency food packages - Pure drinking water - Water purification packets & Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) packets - Polythene sheets for families seeking shelter in embankments - Food for cattle

Long-Term Impact

Delivering emergency aid following Cyclone Aila will facilitate the recovery of communities severely impacted by the natural disaster. BRAC hopes people will slowly be able to rebuild their lives and overcome tremendous losses.
