Worldwide, female poverty rates are higher than male poverty rates. Women have fewer opportunities to join the workforce and get an education, which makes achieving financial stability and independence an uphill battle. Research shows that women reinvest up to 90% of their income into their families compared to 30% by men. When we invest in women, families experience increased financial and food security and lower rates of domestic violence, while children are better able to attend school.
BRAC takes a community-centered and data-driven approach to addressing poverty and inequality. To date, BRAC has graduated 14 million children from its schools, trained more than 50,000 women as local community health workers across Asia and Africa, and supported over two million women and their families to graduate out of extreme poverty and into sustainable livelihoods.
