Summary

More than 700,000 Rohingya people have fled violence in Myanmar since late August. In response to the evolving humanitarian crisis in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, BRAC is providing clean water, sanitation, food, clothing, healthcare, education, protection, and more to the most vulnerable families. With hundreds of trained emergency response personnel, BRAC has already reached over a million people with at least one critical service - but more arrive each day. Help us reach more Rohingya families.

Challenge

In just a few months, more than half a million people - equivalent to a city the size of Miami - have fled from the Rakhine state of Myanmar to Bangladesh, and thousands more arrive every day. Makeshift settlements and formal camps lack shelter, adequate sanitation, access to clean water, and safe places to bathe and play. Families are hungry, traumatized, and desperate for water. Many women are pregnant, and lack adequate prenatal care. With monsoon season approaching, the need is dire.

Solution

BRAC has reached over one million Rohingya with at least one critical service, including maternal and child health, clean water, sanitation, hygiene, child protection, and education. More than 700 trained experts in emergency response have treated patients, installed latrines and tube wells, and trained the host community and Rohingya as community mobilization volunteers. As the situation evolves, your contribution will help BRAC adapt, scale, and reach the most vulnerable families faster.

Long-Term Impact

BRAC is coordinating closely with the Bangladeshi government, UN, and partner organizations. With more than 40 years of experience in Bangladesh and local staff that can bridge linguistic and cultural barriers faster, BRAC is the local organization leading the response. BRAC is planning for a long-term presence, with an eye toward sustainability, that also addresses the needs of the host communities. As the situation unfolds, BRAC is committed to adapting and scaling. We're here - for good.
