Welcoming some of the 4th-6th grade students
The El Hato Literacy Center offers a variety of free literacy services to the El Hato community, including:
- tutoring before and after school hours for students;
- a library with computers, internet access and a good collection of books;
- a vacation camp to keep children active between school years.
This program comprehensively addresses the community's educational challenges.
Relevant activities include:
- Our team supports the children enrolled in our programs by reinforcing school content, helping them understand their homework, improving reading comprehension, and developing technological skills.
- We reinforce values such as empathy, emotional expression, and critical thinking through our humane education curriculum.
- Our library provides the entire community with free access to books, technology and educational materials. We strengthen intergenerational literacy and support mothers and fathers in reaching the education goals they have for their children.
- At the end of the 2025 school year, we organized a six-week vacation camp that combined gardening activities, plant-based cooking classes, art, games, and reflection time. This time, we also hiked to a local spring. It was a wonderful experience.
- The year 2025 was the first time we were able to bring together the mothers participating in the mentoring program to celebrate Mother's Day with the children. There were contests, raffles, and a lively and joyful atmosphere. This event was made possible thanks to the donations.
- The students had the opportunity to exchange experiences with students from the AIS school in Antigua.

2024 Annual Report
By Craig Sarsony | Volunteer
We’re thrilled to share our 2024 Annual Report with you! It’s been a year of incredible growth, meaningful partnerships, and lasting impact – all thanks to your amazing support. Inside, you’ll find highlights of how we’re transforming lives, empowering communities, and building a brighter future together.
Some highlights of our Literacy Center:
Arround 77% of parents from the tutoring program noted their children have more will to study after participating in our programs. An impressive 100% of our long-term beneficiaries believe that the tutoring program played a key role in helping them successfully complete their primary education and inspired them to continue their studies.
As we look ahead, we are refining and expanding our impact to better serve our community. At the El Hato Literacy Center, we are adopting a more selective approach to ensure deeper, more meaningful support for our beneficiaries. By focusing on students who demonstrate both need and commitment, we aim to enhance the quality of our educational programs and provide targeted resources that foster long-term academic success. Additionally, we are placing a greater emphasis on educational reinforcement and community engagement, ensuring that our students and their families are fully supported in their learning journeys.
