Thiago is a highlight at the São Paulo State Mathematics Olympiad and shares his learnings from the trajectory up until his achievement.
Youth from the Educational Program is a Gold Medal winner at the São Paulo State Mathematics Olympiad
Instituto Reciclar celebrates Thiago’s achievement, youth from the first year of the Educational Program, that, during this month, was renowned as Gold Medal winner at the São Paulo State Mathematics Olympiad. The initiative mobilizes public school students and values logical reasoning and mathematical problem solving performance.
Thiago was nominated to the second stage of the competition due to his outstanding performance at the Prova Paulista (state school system examination, that evaluates the learning of students from the 5th grade to Senior Year) and, since then, started to prepare with the support from his mathematics teacher and by himself, solving exercises and practicing his logical thinking at home. According to him, the incentive to participate in the competition came from his own teacher, who has always encouraged his students to seek new experiences, such as university entrance exams and olympiads.
Besides his personal preparation, the activities at Instituto Reciclar contributed to his development, especially the Mathematical Languages and Logical Reasoning Workshops, that are part of the first year of the Educational Program.
“The workshops at Instituto Reciclar guided me throughout this process. Allan (educator) always addressed mathematics in a simple manner and taught us how to use logical reasoning in our favor”, says Thiago. The Educational Program at Instituto Reciclar pushes young people to broaden their repertoire and explore opportunities since the beginning of their formation, promoting fundamental cognitive and socioemotional competencies to face present and future challenges.
The São Paulo State Mathematics Olympiads is an initiative from the State Department of Education that recognizes high-performing students, aiming to value mathematical learning in all of the state school system.
The ceremony award reunited schools from different areas and represented a moment of collective celebration. Thiago shared his surprise with the result and commotion with his friends also being rewarded:
“It was a very happy moment, because I won the gold medal and many of my friends were also awarded. Shortly after, I came running to Instituto Reciclar to celebrate with educators and colleagues”, he recalls.
We congratulate Thiago for his achievement and dedication! We carry on with the commitment to increasingly contribute to the holistic development of young people. After all, when one young person is transformed, the world is transformed with them.
