Education to Students and Children Under Six Years

Greetings from The Odwar Fund!

It has been a while since we were in touch and i wish to bring you to speed with what is happening here at The Odwar Fund especially in the academic arena after the covid. It is quite difficult to really explain what is happening but quite frankly life has not been the same with the emmergence of Covid. What has commonly been described as the new normal will take a while to become a normal trend especially with the education of children.

In Uganda,most schools opened to children on the 10th of January 2022 but itbwas a bee hive of activity for children,parents and teachers ie schools to be precise. The fact that choldren had been out of school for nearly two years meant that there was to be a lot of adjustment measures to help kids resume to near normal life,the most challenging being which class/grade should a particular child be enrolled in. Indeed this caused a lot of problems with amny children and parents realising that age was not comformimg to class or grade. 

As a result of this many schools had to take a deision to promote children based on their ages and this in itself comes with challenges because a child in primary three would have been best placed to be in primary two and as a result they end up having a double responsibility to try and catch up with workload of primary two and thrfee at the same time.

Those in nursery section,had even more challenges becaue a number of children had to compromise early childhood development level and progress straight to primary one and this means that they are having a lot of challenges with counting,reading,spelling which should have been learnt at the early childhood stage.

With the above,came the challenge that most parents have had dificulty making money due to lockdown and as a result many rural parents have had a loyt of difficulty meeting the scholastic needs of the children with many prefering that their children stays at home due to inabnility to meet requirements at school.

The other problem that came with the covid situation was the aspect of teenage pregnancy,Government agrre that prenant girls be allowed to get back to school but the issue of religion had some efects as well,even at the personal level the issue of stigma could not allow most of the girls that got pregnant to get back to school.

Friends whereas the above chalnges describe the education post covid,there are positives to it,there is a surge in the number of children entering school because of the backlog with many classes becoming double or triple in terms of attendance. Many schools are also now facing the challenge of pit latrines getting filled up more quickly due to the surge in number of children in school because those children that could have beem moved to secondary school remained in primary due to the transition challenges.

Given the above scenario,we believe as an organization there is a lot of work to be done and we are counting on you our friends,partners and supporters to help us meet the needs of the hundreds of children whose future entirely depends on them accessing quality education and early childhod care.

The prolonged lockdown has had devastating effect not only on education but also on livelihoods of children and their famillies.

The girls and boys have grown much bigger than their class and there will be great need for accellerated promotions and this may calll for decogestion of syllubus to allow for better understanding by learners.

Our teachers too will need to be supported to adopt to new methodologies of teaching which are learner friendly.

We appreciate our supporters for all the generosity and request for your continued support to ensure that as the children get back to school we can continue to support their adjustments to the new normal.

The success of our work depend grossly on you and as we end 2021 and cross to 2022 we are faced with new arrays of unique challenges which will call for new thoughts and ideas,we therefore call upon you to support us with ideas,opinions that can enable us move forward,also whenever possible we still have several gaps that require financial engagement and as a result we request you to continue to have us in your financial planning and thoughts so that we can continue to extend support to the children and communities that are in dare need of support from us.
