The Som do Sertão Project experienced a deeply meaningful cultural exchange through a partnership with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), bringing together its participants and students from the Sibelius Academy, Finland, in an immersive artistic experience. Over two days, children and young people engaged in collaborative workshops focused on music, dance, and singing, exploring new sounds, arrangements, rhythms, and expressive languages in an environment of openness, respect, and shared learning.
More than a technical exchange, the experience became a genuine meeting of cultures and emotions. The interaction fostered dialogue, strengthened bonds, and reinforced the understanding of art as a universal language capable of connecting people beyond geographic and cultural boundaries. The activities encouraged collective creation, active listening, and mutual inspiration, allowing participants to recognize their own potential while valuing diversity and cooperation.
The experience culminated in a public concert that brought together all participants in a powerful collective performance, marked by emotion, unity, and artistic sensitivity. For many, the impact of the project went beyond the stage. As one participant shared: “From the very beginning, taking part in the activities made me feel much better, as it helped me disconnect and forget about my problems. The most meaningful moment for me was the general rehearsals, when we all played together and felt the strength of the collective. Throughout my participation, I learned how important a project like this is for the community, and I also greatly improved my musical knowledge.” E.S. 13 years old.
