Two young people from Caicó-RN turned dreams into reality with the support of SOS Children’s Villages. The Som do Sertão Project was the stage where they discovered the power of music and perseverance. Today, both have been accepted into music school, proving that talent, dedication, and opportunity can truly change destinies.
L.M. shares that playing an instrument once seemed like a distant dream, but with the encouragement received through the project, music became not only a passion but also a life purpose. Every note practiced and every performance was a step toward making that dream come true.
“My story with the Notes of Hope Project began in August 2018, when the project was still focused on revitalizing the Hermann Gmeiner Philharmonic. Over the years, the project and the educators were fundamental to my growth as a human being and to my decision to pursue music. It was through this project that doors began to open for me.” – L.M.
M.T., on the other hand, brings a story marked by resilience. After losing his father, he nearly gave up on music. But with the support of his mother, his teachers, and the friendships built within the project, he found the strength to start over. Today, he plays in several bands across Rio Grande do Norte and continues firmly on his path to becoming a professional musician.
“I began my musical studies in October 2018 at the Hermann Gmeiner Philharmonic, first playing drums and later the trumpet. Since then, I have faced many challenges, but I never gave up, because my dream is to become a professional instrumentalist.
In 2022, I lost my father, my greatest supporter. This loss shook me so deeply that I even left the project. But with the support of my mother, Professor Nomilson, and friends, I returned and found the strength to keep going.
Today, I play in several bands in Caicó and other cities in the state. I am very grateful for the support I have received, because the Notes of Hope Project not only helped me — it saved me. I hope my example can inspire other young people who will join this transformative project.” – M.T.
These stories move us because they show that when we invest in children and young people, we are not only nurturing talents — we are helping to transform entire lives.
