The project will develop and enhance the educational standard and life skill knowledge of poor and educationally weak students of Slums of Rayagada Town of Odisha, India by creating opportunities for additional learning facilities by way of special coaching. 300 students of poor economic background of 12 slums will be reached and motivated thru special coaching class. Through coaching their capacity will be built in education and life skills and Child rights.
In the Rayagada slum the education delivery standard of Govt. run school is very poor. The poor and vulnerable background of children of Slum Dwellers cannot afford any additional coaching. As a result they perform poorly in the examinations and they are also irregular in their school. Many of them are potential child labours. It is compounded by caste, ethnicity and poverty issues for girls living in slums denying them growth opportunities, initiative and visibility in civic life.
The project establishes community based coaching centers in 12 slums of Rayagada Town to provide learning spaces for the children in slums. The additional coaching is designed with joyful learning method. The basic life skill inputs will be also provided to the students. The children of classes from 1st standard to 5th standard are the target group. Once, we streamline their education at primary level, their mainstream in high school will be easy and we will ensure their higher education.
300 students will perform fairly in their respective classes. Their educational standard will be improved. They will have the knowledge of the basic life skills. They will became advocates of child' rights in their own communities. The attendance of the students will be regular and the drop out will be checked. The inferiority feeling among them will be changed positively. They will also influence other children of the slum towards better education. They will play the role of change agents.
