Dear Friends,
We hope you and your loved ones are all doing well, and staying safe. We are thinking of all of our supporters, hoping that you are all healthy and staying out of harms way. As for how things are in Haiti, we wanted to take some time to give you a quick update on what's been happening.
While the country is still on lock-down and in a declared State of Emergency, the Government advised certain businesses to open and operate at 30% capacity, as long as they adhere to social distancing practices. Therefore, our partner, deux mains (which employs REBUILD globally program graduates) is open with a limited staff to produce reuse-able canvas masks for local NGO's and Hospitals. Mask orders provide work for the deux mains staff, and a way for our collaborators to keep their communities protected from the Coronavirus.
We are grateful for this opportunity, but it still leaves many unemployed. To combat this financial burden for our team, REBUILD globally set up an unemployment fund to support our team. This has been an enormous relief for our REBUILD globally and deux mains employees. In Haiti, each paycheck is estimated to support 8-10 additional people, so 6 weeks of unemployment is truly devastating. We are so grateful to have been able to ease that burden thanks to our generous supporters.
Therefore, we are humbly asking you to encourage friends and family to support REBUILD globally by donating whatever possible for our families in Haiti that rely so heavily on their income from REBUILD globally and deux mains. Every little bit helps, no amount is too little.
We appreciate you and all you do to support education, job training, and dignified employment in Haiti.
