Our organization continues to support more than 100 Romanian and Ukrainian refugee children through our day center programs. In the village of Pechea, our center welcomes and helps 25 children every single day.
Although more than a year has passed since the devastating floods, the community is still struggling to recover. Behind many doors there is still poverty, uncertainty, and pain. For children, the effects are often invisible — fear, neglect, lack of support, and little hope for the future.
Children Carrying Adult Burdens
Many of the children who come to our center live in extremely difficult situations. Some are raised by single mothers who are overwhelmed and exhausted. Others live with grandparents or relatives after being abandoned by their parents. We work with families affected by chronic illness, unemployment, alcohol abuse, and deep financial hardship.
Some children arrive withdrawn and lacking confidence. Others are behind in school because nobody at home is able to help them learn. Many simply need someone patient enough to sit beside them and believe in them.
Every day, our team helps children with homework, reading, and educational recovery. We work closely with local teachers, who often tell us how much progress these children make thanks to the personal attention and one-on-one support they receive at the center.
For many children, school became a place of failure and frustration. At our center, they slowly begin to believe again that they are capable, intelligent, and valuable.
But our work goes far beyond education.
The children receive nutritious snacks, play games, create crafts, go on trips, and participate in cultural and community activities. For some, these are experiences they would never otherwise have. Through these moments, they learn how to communicate, trust others, and enjoy being children again.
One of the most beautiful things for us is seeing how happy the children are to come to the center each day.
For many of them, this is more than a program. It is a safe place. A place where they make friends. A place where they are encouraged instead of criticized. A place where someone listens to them. A place where they can dream again.
Slowly, child by child, we see confidence returning to their eyes.
Giving Young People a Chance to Continue Their Education
In addition to the children attending our day center, our foundation also provides monthly scholarships for more than 50 children and young people from villages across Galati County and three neighboring counties.
Without this support, many would be forced to abandon school because their families simply cannot afford transportation, supplies, rent, or daily living costs.
These scholarships allow young people to continue high school and university studies and pursue dreams that once seemed impossible.
Romania is currently facing increasing economic difficulties, worsened by the war in Ukraine, instability in other parts of the world, and an ongoing political crisis. Prices continue to rise, families are becoming poorer, and vulnerable children are being affected the most.
Every month, more parents tell us they can no longer cope alone.
And yet, every month, children continue to come to our centers hoping for support, stability, and a chance for a different future.
Thank You for Standing With These Children
None of this would be possible without your support.
Because of your kindness, children who once felt forgotten are receiving care, education, encouragement, and hope. You are helping us protect childhood, restore dignity, and give vulnerable children the opportunity to build a better future.
Thank you for walking alongside us and alongside these children!
