On June 24, 2026, Venezuela was struck by a catastrophic double earthquake sequence (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5), causing widespread destruction across the north-central region of the country. Gran Caracas and the state of La Guaira are among the hardest-hit areas, leaving thousands of families displaced, hundreds of buildings collapsed, and critical infrastructure severely compromised.
At Coromoto2020, we are actively addressing this severe crisis. Our academic community, built in close alliance with the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), has been directly impacted by this tragedy. We are working around the clock to assess the safety of our network and provide immediate support to those who have lost everything.
Coromoto2020 runs specialized professional development diplomas for educators in the region. At the time of the disaster, our active cohorts included:
Caracas and La Guaira: Teachers enrolled in our Pedagogical Mediation of Learning diploma.
La Guaira: Teachers enrolled in our Computational Thinking diploma.
It is with profound sorrow that we report heavy losses within our immediate family. Several teachers from La Guaira currently pursuing their diplomas, alongside multiple proud alumni of our programs, are confirmed to have passed away due to structural collapses. Many surviving educators and graduates in the coastal region of La Guaira have lost their homes, their belongings, and their peace of mind.
"In this moment of pain, we join in prayer for the eternal rest of the students and graduates of our diplomas held in alliance with UCAB. We also lift our prayers for those who have been affected, especially those who today face the loss of loved ones, their homes, and their tranquility." (John 11:25)
The situation on the ground remains critical. Local emergency services are overwhelmed, and vulnerable communities are facing an acute shortage of basic resources. Our primary focus is supporting the surviving teachers, staff, and their families who are currently unsheltered or cut off due to landslides.
We cannot navigate this tragedy alone. Our educators are the backbone of Venezuela's future, and right now, they need urgent solidarity.
Support our relief efforts today. Your generosity will directly translate into food, shelter, and medical care for educators who have dedicated their lives to teaching others, and who now have to rebuild their own lives from the rubble.
