FENPS runs 40 schools which host over 21,000 children (48% girls) across Somali regions. This project complements FENPS activities, and improves access to life-saving quality education for 3000 school children from internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Somalia. The project focuses on rehabilitation and expansion of 15 schools, establishing of 48 gender responsive latrines together with provision of hygiene promotion supplies, learning and teaching materials and daily nutritious school meals.
The impact of droughts and conflict crisis have worsened the living conditions of internally displaced persons-IDPs in Somalia. 2.6 million Somalis are IDPs, and live in makeshift homes at IDP camps with limited basic services. of those, 1 million are children of school going age. These children encounter different barriers to education and protection such as lack of adequate learning, exploitation, abuse and more. This project will affect 3000 children who reside at IDP settlements in Somalia.
FENPS will mobilize community to improve enrollment and retention of 3000 crisis affected children in schools through rehabilitation and expansion of 15 schools with inclusive and gender responsive materials. FENPS conducts protection awareness sessions for 3000 crisis affected children, and provides them with learning and teaching materials, safe drinking water and school feeding. FENPS also trains 84 teachers in pedagogy, hygiene promotion processes, gender and psycho-social support.
Enrollment and retention of 3000 vulnerable children from internally displaced families will improve.The children benefit from emergency school feeding, and survive from famine.The 3000 children benefit from learning and teaching materials and their capacity of literacy and numeracy skills will enhance.The 3000 children participate in hygiene promotion and recreational activities in 15 schools and their health well being will improve.The 3000 children will finish 1 complete primary school year.
