Anjali lives in Rangpuri slum pocket in Delhi with her parents and 3 siblings. The family hails from Bihar and migrated to Delhi in search of better livelihood options. Earlier, she could not go to school due to multiple reasons – distance of the school, low family income forced her to support her family in sibling care and household chores.
In spite of all challenges, Anjali was keen to continue with her education. The EOW team met her family and motivated them to enroll her in to the Remedial Class. “It feels very unsure for girls like Anjali to be committed for regular educational activities due to multi faceted challenges they were going through in their lives. But the tireless efforts of the teacher and the entire team of Education on Wheels ensures they attend all activities”, says, Nasim Ahamad, looking after Field Operations for Sukarya.
Anjali started attending classes without any delay. The team was in touch with her mother and reiterated the importance of education through regular home visits. The mother was requested to support her as she needs time to finish home works. Her mother was convinced and assured that she woulkd take care of the house chores so that Anjali could focus in her studies.
“I never believed that I could ever restart my studies", The education on wheel bus parked near my slum brought the new hope to me and now along with supporting my family, I am able to fulfil my dreams”, shared Anjali.
“There is no school around my slum and my father does not have money to admit me in a private school. I am excited and happy now as EoW took me as a student”, says 6 years old Sameer from Hoti camp slum, Delhi.
“We are lucky to have school coming to our slum. I have enrolled both of my children and I am relaxed now hat my kids are learning here”, says Sanjay, migrated from Bihar.
