Education on wheels [EOW] is a uniquely designed program which prepares slum children for formal education by taking the school to them. EOW is a well equipped bus with computers, TV and other essential education related materials. The idea is to motivate slum kids & their parents by providing good facilities (AC Bus, Good teachers), innovative curriculum to bring kids up to 3rd grade school level in one year. preparing them for 3rd grade examination & enroll them into local 4th grade school.
Access to education & learning environment in the slums are unavailable. poor parents don't have enough money to send their children to formal school. The children often end up doing domestic chores or get into rag-picking & other criminal activities. The EOW program has brought the first mobile classroom to the slums so that they can have access to non-formal education with a uniquely designed curriculum. The project needs funding for the 2nd mobile classroom & the yearly implementation cost.
Currently, Sukarya runs its EOW program at 2 slums in Gurgaon. It provides Non-Formal Education to 120 children with the following key components - Monthly Parent-Teacher Meetings, Health Clinics, Annual & Monthly learning tests, Screenings of inspirational movies, Exposure Visits, Open Basic Education classes, & Computer classes. They will be admitted in the 4th grade in the local schools. The funding through GlobalGiving is to support the operation of this program every year for next 3 years
