Why is fundraising right now so important? Because a lack of education in Central America is one of the most important reasons families suffer from malnutrition, poverty, and domestic violence. We must ban together to provide a voice to children and a safe space to grow into happy and thriving adults.  Little by little, our donors have helped us do just that, as we continue to expand Escuela Adelante, a bilingual school in Nicaragua.

Our most pressing need, as we launch 4th grade in January 2021, is more classrooms. As we add a grade level each year to our school, we run out of enough space to teach our student body! It is more urgent than ever that we work together, as Escuela Adelante supporters, to ensure that our students carry on successfully into the primary school years in their separate classrooms.

We want to enter the new year with infrastructure to safely and effectively instruct primary school students. We have taken steps to get there. The architectural renderings are complete. Our two-classroom pod structures with rooftop "terrazas" and additional outdoor learning space in-between will lead to lots of innovation and advancement. The school's location in nature makes it idyllic and inspirational. We plan on building three of these two-classroom pods for grades 1 - 6 of primary school.

Escuela Adelante is diverse, colorful, and creative. We work with low-income local families in Nicaragua to provide free and low-cost bilingual education. We have made an effort to allow for extra support for families during the Covid-19 pandemic. On September 1st, we launched a partial reopening with rotating schedules and small groups. We couldn't be happier to see students, even if it is under a mask for now!

From September 14th to 18th, GlobalGiving will host the Little by Little campaign. We want to ask supporters to consider making a small donation to our project: Help Build a Bilingual School. GlobalGiving will match all donations up to $50 by 50% for five days straight. Any new monthly donations will receive an additional 100% match on top of that. You give a little, and we get a lot! Little by little, primary school, here we come!

Escuela Adelante is really making progress on it's campus. Once only a dream, now the dream is becoming a reality thanks to committed donors like YOU!

Did you know that Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries on the Western Hemisphere? Many families have to decide between food and school, especially now during the pandemic. Only through education will the next generation have the tools necessary to lift themselves out of poverty. We need Escuela Adelante to continue to grow. The families need this school because it meets the real needs of this world.  Our students and their families are depending on us.

We are truly in need of more classrooms by the start of 2021 in order to have enough space for all of our students. Our 3rd grade can no longer share a classroom with 2nd grade and our 4th grade will be launched next calendar year. We have grown our curriculum and our student body, but we need a new building to house our classes. Now is the time to donate to this cause. We have met our recent goals of building the kitchen and the cafeteria. However, we still need 2 new classrooms!

Our students truly benefit from this high-quality bilingual education and it is unique to any other school around. We need your support to continue to make this campus a reality!

Our students deserve a beautiful atmosphere to learn and grow.

Dear Supporters,

As you're probably aware, Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and the past two years have brought exceptional hardship. In the struggle to escape poverty, major obstacles for children include malnutrition and a lack of quality education.

For many families in San Juan del Sur and its surrounding areas, Escuela Adelante is the only viable option for a high-quality education and the opportunity to learn English. You've helped make this school a reality, and it's bringing real hope to the futures of hundreds of children.

We've learned that many students don't receive well-balanced meals at home, and we recognize the detriment of malnutrition on a student's academic abilities and overall well-being. Therefore we have begun providing nutritious lunches for our full-day students and healthy snacks for our half-day preschoolers and kindergartners. The school curriculum now incorporates organic gardening and nutrition. Students take part in growing vegetables and collecting eggs from our chickens, which our fabulous cook incorporates into healthy meals.

Escuela Adelante needs to build a kitchen and cafeteria before the next school year starts in January. The tiny kitchen that came with the property is barely adequate for a family, much less an elementary school. We need to start construction in the next few months, but we haven't raised enough funds to do so.

Please consider making a contribution this Thursday. GlobalGiving is offering a one-day matching opportunity for donations of $100 to $1000. The higher the donation, the higher the match. Gifts of $750 to $1000 will be matched at 50%! The match is ONE DAY ONLY: this Thursday, July 18, from 9 am to midnight (EST).

This is a great opportunity to band together with friends or family to make one larger contribution. You can contribute to the kitchen and cafeteria campaign here!

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Sincerely,

The Adelante Team

Dear Supporters,

You made it happen! In January Escuela Adelante opened its doors to a new year at the new campus. Over 250 students attend school in the new building – bilingual preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade in the mornings, youth ESL classes in the afternoons, and adult ESL classes in the evenings.

We plan to continue growing the school every year, to see our students all the way through 12th grade. The next step is to build a kitchen and cafeteria. We have already integrated gardening into our curriculum, and home-grown vegetables will be a major ingredient in the nutritious lunches we provide the students.

From April 8-12 GlobalGiving is MATCHING donations up to $50 at 60%!

Please contribute this week if you can, to our new campaign for a kitchen and cafeteria: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/provide-nutritious-school-lunches-in-nicaragua/

Thank you for your continued support of accessible bilingual education in San Juan del Sur. Your donations are changing hundreds of lives.

Mil Gracias,

The Adelante Team

P.S. Anyone who donates $1000 (this can be cumulative) will receive permanent recognition at the new campus. We appreciate our major donors and want to acknowledge your generosity at the beautiful new site.

Dear Supporters,

We're close to the finish line! Escuela Adelante's new building has plumbing, electricity, and some furnishings. With so many windows and lots of light, it took just a bit of paint and tile to brighten the space, resulting in an inspiring, natural, and cost-efficient learning environment. One generous donor is fully funding a tree-house themed playground in the mango grove in front of the school. We can't wait for the students to start climbing and playing on it!

The Ministry of Education of Nicaragua has approved the school to launch Bilingual First & Second Grade, and we are currently enrolling students to begin in January. The new location, just south of San Juan del Sur, positions us to more easily welcome students from the southern coastal communities, where schooling options are much more limited than in town. We're also setting up transportation solutions to ensure that no one misses out on an education because they cannot afford bus fare. As always, tuition is based on family income, with many students attending for free.

Thanks to donors like you and support from organizations like Water Charity and the National Peace Corps Association, we are close to fully funding the new building. We still need to raise $16,506, however, by the end of the year. We hope that you can include Escuela Adelante in your Holiday Giving, and share the campaign with others who might support this cause.

Additionally, anyone who starts a monthly donation, up to $200, during the Giving Season will have their initial donation matched 100% by GlobalGiving.

2018 was a difficult year in Nicaragua, but you have helped the school and the community endure major setbacks. We're determined that Escuela Adelante will not only remain open to its students but will continue to move forward in creating the best educational opportunities possible. Thank you for helping to build this important new space. Your gift to these children today can open doors for years to come.

Mil Gracias,

The Adelante Team

P.S. Anyone who donates $1000 (this can be cumulative) will receive permanent recognition at the new campus. We appreciate our major donors and want to acknowledge your generosity at the beautiful new site. Donors who contribute $5000 will have a classroom named after them.

Happy Holidays!
