Dear Donors,
Greetings from IDEA Foundation!
IDEA is running community based study centers in 20 slums in Pune apart from many villages to address the issues of lack of interest and lack of regular school attendance of children and also to provide opportunities for poor children for their overall development. The children also get various opportunities for developing their creativity, imagination and general knowledge through co-curricular activities like Art & Craft, competitions, vacation camps, workshops, exposure visits, library activity etc.
We are following a holistic child development model, where all aspects of a child’s development is considered —spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and relational. The holistic approach encourages learning through engagement of the environment.
Schools are closed for summer holidays for 2 months. We make use of this time to arrange outdoor activities for children in our study centres. Our summer camps focuses mainly on developing the true potential and creativity of children. These children are coming from a very poor background and this kind of exposure is really important for them. They forget their limitations and family background and enjoy the learning process and come up with new ideas and show creative openness. These camps contribute to the development and learning in children.
This month we have arranged a 2 day camp for 46 children from Bhor. They participated in different extra curricular activities and Art and Craft sessions. They also got a chance to make new friends. By actively participating in different activities with a free mind and in tune with nature children are learning to be confident and responsible, which is the most important aspect of education.
While many private schools are implementing Holistic approach in education, for children from poor communities who are studying in Government schools, it is something new. We are helping them to also have equal opportunities for their all round development. Thank you for supporting us and for being a part of our mission.
