Dear friends and donors !

Greetings!

We are here again with a detailed report of a recently held activity  co-ordinated and organized  by iVolunteer - another NGO for IDEA  ,as IDEA staff are busy with collecting examination results , counseling students and at the same time distributing school materials to students ! This is a vivid illustration of the power  and beauty of ‘ Networking’ in Social field !

Theme Event Report: let’s know our rights & duties!!!

Location: IDEA study center located at ARAI Road, Kelewadi, Pune

 Beneficiaries:25children (8 – 14 years of age). These children are studying in government schools and are also enrolled with IDEA for additional guidance in their studies.

 Objective:

  • · To conduct a movie screening followed by an awareness workshop for the students.
  • · The workshop aimed at creating awareness among school going children about their Human Rights and rights & duties as children.

Activity:

The event started with a short skit and group song presented by the children . Thereafter, a movie based on human rights was screened .The movie title was “Give me back my childhood”. The movie describes the life of children living on streets and how they are deprived of the basic human rights in our country. The movie mentions the names of each right; the children get deprived of with the flow of the story. It mentions of individuals right to live with dignity, Right to safe and secure environment, right to live with parents, right to education, health services, food, shelter, Right to Equality, Equal treatment before law etc.

 Children enjoyed the movie screening. This was followed by a discussion on their understanding of what human rights are? Then four groups were formed and each group had to present what they understood from the movie and what they consider as their basic rights as humans. They had to use chat paper and sketch pens to present their ideas. They were given half an hour for this task.

 Then each group presented its ideas one by one. Some children used paintings, role plays, pictorial demonstration etc to express their understandings. One of the groups came up with an extempore skit performance based on human rights. This was excellent.

 Post group presentation, the children were explained the basic human rights and how rights are always accompanied by duties.

 Finally at the end of the session, sweets were distributed amongst the children and the session was wrapped up. The kids enjoyed the session and also developed a fair understanding about human rights.

 Accomplishment;

It was a very fun –filled, informative and interactive event. It helped the children to have an understanding of their rights as human beings and how one’s right becomes another person's duty and vice versa.
