Dear Donor,
Greetings from IDEA!
Reading opens doors to endless possibilities and so we wanted to inculcate this habit in our Study Centre children from a young age. The main aim behind starting the Study Centres is enhancing basic learning skills- Reading, Listening & Comprehension of all children so that they have a strong academic foundation. We conduct some activities especially to generate in children a love for reading. After their regular studies, children at Study centres are encouraged to read story books in groups which is followed by discussions, role playing games or essay writing.
LIBRARY IN A KIT- Portable Library just for kids
All Study Centres are equipped with mini portable Libraries which have books sorted according to grades. The Library has both English and Marathi (local language) books. Children are issued new books every week which they read in groups.
In the group each child takes turns reading a story, this improves attention span and confidence while making the reading activity a little more fun. After a story is over the children share what they have learned and the teacher explains the moral message at the end. This improves comprehension skills of the children.
Once in every month the children put a play enacting their favorite stories. They love dressing up as their favorite characters and they always have an audience! This activity has improved the basic learning skills to a great extent. Their vocabulary has expanded and scores in school exams have improved too.
We thank Pratham books for donating these Library kits, there is no better gift to give to child than a book.
LEARNING to respect all RELIGIONS while improving learning skills
In association with BHASHA which literally means LANGUAGE in Marathi (local language), a weekly activity oriented session on reading, enacting and craft work is implemented in our study centers. This is a unique activity for children which aims at improving their language skills also educates them about the significance of celebrating different festivals, events of National importance and International days.
Important festivals of all religions and states of India like Diwali, Christmas and Eid and also days of national & international importance in each month are celebrated according to their unique customs. The teacher then explains the importance of these events and the purpose behind why they the celebrated. The teacher uses special teaching material designed specifically for primary school children.
The children then perform plays and dances based on the festivals of that month. Recently on the occasion of World Literacy Day, the children from all study centres got together to make stick puppets. They even put up a lively and spirited show on “Importance of Education”. We are happy to share the pictures with you all.
This activity is one of a kind as the kids not only get to hear amazing stories and celebrations but also get an education in secularism and an appreciation for different communities and religions. Days of National importance like Independence day and Republic day instill a sense of national pride while different state festivals make them more secular and we hope more tolerant of the diversity of this country in the future.
Thank you Dear Donor, it is because of you these kids have a new book in their hands and a new word on their lips. We request you to show your consistent support in enabling us to create opportunities for needy tiny tots!
