Three Years In Uganda: Join Our Webinar

By Olivia Darby | Chief Learning and Advocacy Officer

Thank you for being part of WONDER's community. Because of you, WONDER and our partners in Uganda have just finished three years of work with young women in Kampala, Garuga and Gayaza.

Our Kumulisa Project reached 365 women and girls, in collaboration with Kyoga Foundation and Pearlcrest Hospitality Training Institute. Some trained in accredited hospitality skills, some in business, some in pastry and bakery. We trained 41 mentors alongside them, more than we had planned.

I want to share the results with you:

  • More than nine in ten graduates were earning after their training
  • Four in five were in work within three months.
  • Nine in ten said they had more say over decisions affecting their own lives.
  • Three in four passed what they had learned on to someone else.

What made it work was the mentoring. Many students arrive at Pearlcrest having been displaced, or having lost parents. Someone who knows them, checks in and keeps checking in after they graduate is what leads to long term employment.

I'd love to tell you more!

Join us for a live webinar on Thursday 24 September at 1PM UK / 3PM Uganda.

You'll hear from Francesca Otine of Pearlcrest, two of the students, and WONDER's Dr Evelyn Tiren.

Thank you for standing with women and girls around the world! We hope to see you next week.
