Earlier this year we were faced with a security problem at our school Besh Kappa due to the Taliban being in the area. Ultimately the decision was to temporarily close the school until we could once again ensure our students were safe getting to and from school. We were hoping to reopen our doors in March but recent developements have made that not possible.
Besh Kappa is located on the outskirts of the town of Aqcha. Unfortunately Taliban activity in the area has only increased in the months since we temporarily closed our doors. Since the school is not located directly in the town it is not as easy to ensure that students, especially girls, are able to get to school safely. As a result we are currently looking at other schools in the area that need our support that are closer to town and will hopefully be able to open their doors in March when students return from winter break.
Life for our students is never totally certain, but thankfully education is something that no one can ever take away from them. We have over 1,300 students currently enrolled at Mullah Karim and another 460 enrolled Sewad Hayati meaning even though Besh Kappa's and the other schools in Aqcha have an uncertain future we are still educating over 1,700 students. That's 1,700 students that are gaining another year of education that nobody, not even the Taliban, can take away from them.
