Thank you very much for supporting science and robotics workshops run by ORT SA CAPE in South Africa. This has been making a big difference for disadvantaged children from around Cape Town.
Two workshops were recently held, and these were sponsored by you through GlobalGiving UK! Debbie from ORT SA CAPE has sent photos and updates. The first workshop was a three-day science and robotics workshop for children from the organisation, iThemba-laBantu, which is based in the township of Philippi.
One boy, Anathi, very much enjoyed learning how to build robots, with both Lego and LittleBits kits. A girl, Phozisa, also really liked building robots. The children are very focused when they do robotics and one of the girls, Anita, worked with such deep concentration whilst building her robot. The children all enjoyed the workshop and they did some lovely thank you drawings.
The second workshop was an electronics workshop for an all-girls group from the township of Khayelitsha, via the Thope Foundation. This workshop took place in ORT SA CAPE's classroom in the Cape Town Science Centre. The girls learned to build computers through Kano Computing. Two of the girls, Bongi* and Zizwe* particularly enjoyed building computers. Bongi and her friend, Thandi*, also liked using LittleBits kits to build robots.
A further workshop is planned to take place at the end of June for the children from Seawind Educare. This is one of CHW's partner organisations and we are very happy to have been able to link them with ORT SA CAPE. This will be the second workshop ORT SA CAPE has run for Seawind Educare.
Thank you for helping to make all this possible!
On 15 June, GlobalGiving will be holding a Bonus Day. CHW's founder, Catherine, recently completed GlobalGiving's Online Fundraising Academy and as part of this, CHW has been challenged to raise $1000 (£685) during the Bonus Day. This amount would go a long way towards sponsoring a whole 3-day workshop for 30 children. The really great thing about the Bonus Day is that GlobalGiving will be matching donations by up to 50%, whilst their bonus funds last, so this would help your donation to go even further. The Bonus Day starts at 2pm UK time (3pm South African time) and ends on 16 June at 5 am UK time (6 am South African time). If you are able to help, it would be wonderful if you could share this link to the project on the day: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/21813 or even make a donation. If you want to contribute, don't forget to donate as soon as possible once the Bonus Day starts, as the bonus funds can quickly run out!
A huge thank you for all your help and support for these children.
