Children enjoying Zoo field trips
Children enjoying Zoo field trips

Hello Jerusalem Biblical Zoo supporters!

Since we last reported to you, our regular education programming including after school programs, school field trips, the teen research program and gifted students’ programs have continued as usual. Young people of all ages and backgrounds continue to learn in a beautiful and fun atmosphere. We hope you enjoy the pictures of our school groups enjoying themselves and learning about nature conservation.

In addition, over school holiday periods, we have continued to run special educational events including special “Meet the Keeper” talks, guided tours and animal enrichment activities as well as fun family workshops including a special treasure hunt game based on our wildlife conservation programs to help raise public awareness of the issues involved.

We are currently taking registrations for our summer camp experience where hundreds of children will learn more about animals, science and nature conservation.

Thank you for being a part of our efforts to educate our community in an atmosphere of inclusion and tolerance.

In addition, over school holiday periods, we have continued to run special educational events including a special treasure hunt game “Searching for the Vulture Eggs”, special “Meet the Keeper” talks and fun family workshops.

In February we held our annual Arbor Day (Tu B’Shvat) event in which many families participated in planting new trees. This activity was accompanied by other educational activities.

We have also devoted a lot of effort towards publicizing in our written publications, website and on social media of the wildlife conservation efforts we are involved in – including a special vulture breeding and reintroduction program.

Even visitors who don’t participate in our educational activities take some educational lessons away with them because our signage, presentations and guides provide information in three languages – Hebrew, English and Arabic. Visitors learn about our fascinating animals and the habitats they come from as well as about the important work being done towards conserving our precious natural environments. Visitors also learn more about how they can be kinder to the environment and live greener lives every day.

Most importantly, we welcome all communities to learn together in a spirit of tolerance and co-existence.

Thank you for being a part of our efforts to educate our community in an atmosphere of inclusion and tolerance.

Hello Jerusalem Biblical Zoo supporters!

As of September 1st, our regular education programming resumed and we continue to welcome school field trips, after school program participants, gifted students and more.

Our Zoo Bagrut high school scientific research program is well under way for the current academic year and we look forward to more excellent scientific research conducted under the supervision of our management team and graded by the Ministry of Education.

In addition, over school holidays periods, we have continued to run special educational events including a special treasure hunt game “Searching for the Vulture Eggs”, special “Meet the Keeper” talks and fun family workshops.

Summer day camps foster a love of nature
Summer day camps foster a love of nature

Hello Jerusalem Biblical Zoo supporters!

This summer the milder weather (usually summer in Jerusalem is wickedly hot!) encouraged people from all of Israel's diverse communities to participate in all of the special educational programming available at the Zoo. Even general visitors take some educational lessons away with them because our signage, presentations and guides provide information in three languages – Hebrew, English and Arabic. Visitors learn about our fascinating animals and the habitats they come from as well as about the important work being done towards conserving our precious natural environments. Visitors also learn more about how they can be kinder to the environment and live greener lives every day.

Special education events over the summer months have included:

  • Summer day camps – this year these were very well attended indeed and our education team reports on very positive work done with these youngsters in terms of raising awareness of wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability.
  • Special guided tours and feedings to deepen visitor understanding of species and habitats.
  • "Meet the Keeper" opportunities for regular visitors - to provide a platform where visitors can ask questions and learn more about the Zoo's animal care and wildlife conservation work.
  • Sunset and evening tours, as well as sleepovers. These activities are so much more than a recreational visit – our guides make use of every opportunity to engage visitors and to educate them. We find that these are among the most successful tools at our disposal as we have had cross-generational attendance.
  • Our regular education programming has resumed as of September 1st and we welcome school field trips, after school program participants, gifted students and more.
  • We are currently recruiting participants for the 2016/2017 Zoo Bagrut high school scientific research program in which gifted students prepare scientific research papers graded by the Ministry of Education.

Thank you for being a part of our efforts to educate our community in an atmosphere of inclusion and tolerance.

Peter & the Wolf come to the Zoo!
Peter & the Wolf come to the Zoo!

Hello Jerusalem Biblical Zoo supporters!

Spring and Summer are busy periods here at the Zoo with people from all of Israel's diverse communities coming out to enjoy the warmer weather. While they are here, we take every opportunity to educate them in a fun and beautiful atmosphere about our fascinating animals and the habitats they come from as well as about the important work being done towards conserving our precious natural environments. Visitors also learn more about how they can be kinder to the environment and live greener lives every day.

Special education events over the last three months have included:

  • Special Passover/Easter programs including dramatic performances, family workshops and guided animal enrichment.
  • The completion of the 2015/2016 Zoo Bagrut high school scientific research program in which gifted students prepare scientific research papers graded by the Ministry of Education.
  • A European Association of Zoos Academy training course on how to more effectively communicate biodiversity to visitors was presented at the Jerusalem Zoo and attended by zoo keepers and educators from all over Israel.
  • A nature photography course for amateur photographers.
  • A special performance of the Israel Festival's "Peter & the Wolf" - including a wildlife conservation talk delivered by a zoo educator about the tension between human beings and wild animals - turning the classic tale into a very effective educational tool.
  • We are busily planning our summer education activities including summer camps, special guided tours and feedings, sunset and evening tours, and sleepovers. These activities are so much more than a recreational visit – our guides make use of every opportunity to engage visitors and to educate them about wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability.
  • Between the holidays, our regular education programming continues and we continue to welcome individuals, families and groups of all ages and from all over the country who participate in our many different educational opportunities.

Thank you for being a part of our efforts to educate our community in an atmosphere of inclusion and tolerance.
