Haitian children with disabilities have little hope of accessing the specialized healthcare and education they need. But ever since Sebastien's mother started bringing him to Pazapa, he's found his stride with a little help from Juliet (pictured), who can often be found at his side during her recess in Pazapa's School for the Deaf. With your support, Pazapa can reach 25 more children like Sebastien and Juliet, who have nowhere else to go for disability-inclusive education and healthcare.
Only an estimated 5% of the approximately 400,000 children living with disabilities in Haiti have access to inclusive education or specialized medical care, and the stigma surrounding disability often means these "invisible children" are hidden away in their homes. This project is especially critical right now, as more families impacted by poverty and disability need support after a year-long crisis in Haiti has left basic necessities like food and water out of reach.
Pazapa means "step by step" in Haitian Creole, and in this way, we've empowered over 2,000 of Haiti's most vulnerable families since 1987. By supporting the Pazapa Center for Children with Disabilities, you can support the treatment, education and development of children and their families with nowhere else to turn. Cure a child of clubfoot. Teach a deaf child to sign. Stop a child's seizures so she can go to school. Give a mother microcredit and training to lift her family out of poverty.
With just $20/month, you can give a child like Juliet or Sebastien the healthcare, education and support that they need to thrive as children and live independently as adults. If you join us as a monthly donor, you'll be paired with a child in need of sponsorship and receive updates throughout the year. Plus, GlobalGiving will match your gift after the first 3 months!
