We’d like to share the story of Binod, a young boy who, despite an extremely unstable childhood, has finally been reunited with his family and community and is enjoying school.
Binod is now 15 years old. When he was just two, his mother left his father and took him away to live with her new partner. Growing up in Pokhara, Binod experienced a childhood marked by instability, violence, and alcohol abuse. Later, he moved with his mother to a remote rural village to live with yet another partner.
Tragically, when Binod was 11, his mother passed away, leaving him completely alone. Determined to survive, he travelled back to Pokhara by himself in search of his stepfather. Instead, he was found living on the streets and was referred by members of the local community and police to our rehabilitation shelter.
Over the next two years, Binod received the care, safety, and support every child deserves. He returned to school, began rebuilding his confidence, and pursued his passion for football. Meanwhile, his social worker continued the difficult task of tracing his biological family.
Earlier this year, after first locating his former stepfather in Pokhara, the team were finally able to trace Binod’s birth village and reconnect him with his father.
The reunion was deeply emotional. Binod spent the school holidays visiting his family in the village and, after reconnecting with them and the wider community, decided to return permanently.
Today, Binod is back where he belongs and is living with his family, attending the local school, making new friends, and fully integrated into the community where he was born. We are still supporting him in terms of providing him with a uniform and school books.
For more than 20 years, Kidasha has helped transform the lives of vulnerable children like Binod. Sadly, the need continues to grow, with too many children still trapped in crisis, alone and at risk.
