At Khel, a learning & recreational centre there are no grade-level comparisons and letter grades for the purpose of labeling. As a result, children cooperate than compete and have a love for learning. The spirit of cooperation and caring makes it possible for children to help each other as individuals, not see the other as a competitor.
Admission in Mainstream Education: Children at Khel who are able to get admitted to mainstream education are taught according to their age and the grade they belong to. A year-long education helps the children to cover missed years of studying, refine writing skills and engage in peer-to-peer learning while building upon their social skills. For the financial year 2021 - 2022, 41 students from Khel became part of mainstream education. 6 children were admitted to private schools, 21 students to TCF schools, and 14 to Government schools after appearing in the admission tests and clearing with flying colors.
New Student Admissions: While Khel bid farewell to the 41 students to mainstream schools, we opened doors to the little ones who are left behind at home while their parents are at work. These children are then roaming around the streets and can become part of anti-social activities from a younger age. As Khel is a safe space for children of any age, these younglings become part of the Montessori and nursery section of the curriculum. For the financial year 2021 - 2022, 26 children were added in Montessori while 5 children were part of Nursery.
Parent-Teacher Meetings: A parent-teacher conference is a great opportunity to share academic progress and growth based on classroom observations, testing data, assessments, portfolios, and assignments. While the dynamics of the community are different i.e. primary caretakers such as mothers are working to earn a living, Khel teachers still invite mothers for a parent-teacher meeting on a quarterly basis. This allows us to share the progress of each child and also understand household environment for those who are unable to grasp the curriculum or have behavioral issues. This year the parent-teacher meeting was focused on progress as well as the importance of cleanliness at home
