Educating the Girls of The Indian Thar Desert

By Rajshree Rathore | Head of Educational Services & Vol. Coordinator

Dear Supporters,

The past four months have been filled with learning, celebration, and growth at our boarding homes in Jodhpur. As our girls returned from their winter holidays, they resumed their studies with renewed energy and enthusiasm, setting a meaningful tone for the year ahead.

Celebrations & Cultural Events

Our students took part in a variety of cultural and national events that fostered joy, community spirit, and a deeper understanding of traditions:

  • Republic Day was marked with patriotic performances and school-wide activities.
  • Makar Sankranti brought warmth and festivity, offering lessons in tradition.
  • Holi filled our campus with vibrant colors and laughter.
  • During Sheetla Ashtami, the girls prepared traditional meals, engaging in cultural learning through hands-on experience.
  • On World Earth Day, students created posters and planted saplings, reinforcing environmental care and responsibility.
  • For International Women’s Day, the girls held a rally and special event, learning about women’s rights and empowerment.

Academic Progress

The girls remained committed to their education throughout this period:

  • Students appeared for unit and annual exam and many entered the crucial phase of board exam preparations.
  • Their dedication was reflected in impressive results — students like Kavita, Alfisha, and Neeru stood out with exceptional performance.

Workshops & Learning Sessions

To support holistic growth, we organized a wide range of skill-building and awareness workshops:

  • Economic Literacy (3-day workshop) – Basics of money management and financial independence.
  • Right to Information Act – Understanding citizen rights and how to file RTI applications.
  • Women’s Rights – Fostering gender equality and self-advocacy.
  • General Awareness – Everyday safety and key social issues.
  • Courage to Speak – Encouraging public speaking and confidence.
  • Personal Hygiene – Promoting healthy habits.
  • Gandhian Values – Lessons on truth, simplicity, and resilience.
  • Healthy Mind, Healthy Body – Integrating mental and physical well-being.
  • Theatre Workshop (National School of Drama) – Creativity, communication, and teamwork through performance.
  • Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Teachings – Motivating students to dream big and work hard.

Volunteer Engagement

We were fortunate to have dedicated volunteers enrich our program:

  • Shivani, a Canadian model, led ramp-walking sessions, boosting self-esteem and stage presence.
  • Mrigaangani introduced movement and expressive art therapy, offering creative emotional outlets.
  • Advika conducted the Economic Literacy workshop with energy and care.

Gratitude & Impact

These past months have been rich in academic, emotional, and creative growth. Our girls are emerging as confident, self-aware individuals, empowered by your continued support.

Your belief in their potential is what fuels this journey — thank you for standing with us.

Warm regards,
Sambhali Trust
