Dear Sambhali Friends and Supporters,

We are thrilled to share with you the remarkable impact your contributions have made through Sambhali Trust's initiatives in empowering women and communities in India. Your generous support has enabled us to continue our mission of fostering dignity, self-confidence, and financial independence among underprivileged populations. Here's a glimpse of our recent activities and the transformative outcomes we've achieved:

Celebrating Cultural Festivals and International Partnerships:

- We observed the auspicious festivals of Navratri and Diwali, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of India, Christmas, and Republic day spreading joy among our participants and staff.

- Notable visitors, including representatives from the US Department of State and the British Deputy High Commissioner, honored us with their presence, further validating our commitment to our mission.

- Our collaboration with Photographers without Borders (PWB) continues to thrive, amplifying our storytelling efforts to protect water, land, and advocate for social justice.

- In Jan Legal Aid and Awareness Committee of NLU Jodhpur conducted a workshop on transgender laws and rights.

Promoting Civic Engagement and Voter Awareness:

- Our Garima project diligently assisted participants in obtaining their voter ID cards, emphasizing the importance of democratic participation.

- We actively engaged in voter awareness campaigns recognized by the Jodhpur District Election Office, advocating for systemic change and empowering individuals to shape their futures through voting.

Combatting Gender-Based Violence and Promoting Self-Defense:

- Participating in the "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence" campaign, we raised awareness and provided support services to combat gender-based violence.

- Self-defense classes were instrumental in empowering our participants, fostering confidence, physical and mental strength, and promoting a sense of community and safety.

We are currently having 8 empowerment centers 4 in Jodhpur, 3 in Jaisalmer and 1 in Setrawa. Around 200 women and 250 children come to us daily to learn. The Advanced Group are now able to speak English quite well and introduce themselves.  They are able to say a little about who they are and what they have been learning whilst coming to Sambhali. The new students at the Centre cannot write nor hold a pencil, so the tutor has spent a lot of time taking it very slowly and teaching them one letter of the alphabet per day. The boarding home girls performed well in their half-yearly exam and college-going girls just completed their 1st semester.

A couple of the volunteers in the last few months taught at the centers and the boarding homes too. The volunteers also have given a series of team-building workshops that incorporated trust exercises and speaking in front of the group.

Sambhali Trust is committed to aiding individuals in dire situations. Recently, we were contacted by the Jodhpur police station regarding a distressing case.

Case 1 - A mute woman, accompanied by her young daughter, sought refuge from her abusive husband. Despite seeking solace with her own family, she encountered indifference to her plight. Feeling unheard and unsupported, she turned to Sambhali Trust, where she found sanctuary in our shelter home.

Recognizing the importance of addressing both individual and familial dynamics, we provided comprehensive counseling. We facilitated discussions with her family members, enlightening them about her struggles and the urgency of her situation. Through patient dialogue and mediation, we fostered understanding and empathy within her family, ultimately leading to their acceptance and support.

Case 2 - In another instance, the police department reached out to us regarding a woman entangled in familial discord. Having endured the turmoil of two failed marriages, she sought refuge with her father. However, her stepmother's resistance denied her access to familial support. Additionally, her financial assistance to her mother became a point of contention. Faced with this untenable situation, she sought refuge at Sambhali Trust.

Understanding the complexity of familial relationships and societal pressures, we provided her with a safe place in our shelter home. Concurrently, we facilitated open communication with her mother, elucidating the challenges she faced and the necessity of familial unity. Through diligent counseling and mediation, we navigated the complexities of her family dynamics, ultimately fostering reconciliation and reinstating familial bonds.

These cases underscore Sambhali Trust's unwavering commitment to providing holistic support to individuals in distress. Through our multifaceted approach encompassing shelter, counseling, and mediation, we endeavor to empower individuals and mend familial relationships, fostering a community of compassion and understanding.

We hope you enjoyed reading about our events and experiences from October till January.
Your contributions continue to have a significant impact,
and we can’t do what we are doing every day without you.
We are very grateful for your belief in Sambhali and our mission.
Thank you for making a difference!

With lots of love from India,

Sambhali Trust
