Khel aims to provide a chance of respite to this generation of younglings with the provision of a space which is tailored to encourage children to be children. Our program aims to provide the basic needs of a child; recreation, rest, leisure, education - as identified by Article 31 of United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Our research shows that in Machar Colony, 82.2% of the population is uneducated while only 11.6% can read and write including those who can write their own name. 54% of the children are working at shrimp peeling factories at night or getting involved in anti social activities. There are no recreational centres in the community and not all parents have the finances to send children to private schools.

Khel creates impact by: Providing a safe and secure environment to children. Support both schooling, sports as well as vocational training amongst youngsters. Cultivate positive attitude, character building and a sense of responsibility amongst children Create awareness regarding health, hygiene inclusive of mental health. Reduce incidences of violence and drug abuse.

Long-Term Impact

Children studying at Khel are able to learn basic Math, English and Urdu and are able to be part of mainstream educational institutes if parents can afford. Older children who are already involved in work and business are able to increase knowledge and be educated while they continue their work.
