Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your support of AIL’s efforts to spread messages of Peace and Human Rights through the unique and informative workshop created by AIL.

During the month of July, the AIL Office in Herat was able to offer four workshops on the topic of Peace and Human Rights to a total of 121 female students, ages 12-22. Each workshop lasted for three hours. The purpose of the workshop was to familiarize the students with the ideas of peace, justice and democracy. One of the students who participated in the workshop said:

I am a high school student. I didn’t know much about democracy because we don’t study it at school. Before coming to this workshop, I had always thought that democracy was a political word and it belonged to politicians, but now I have a different view. I think democracy is the basis of a luxurious and prosperous community and every member of the society needs to pay attention to this word. I thank AIL for giving me the chance to attend this workshop and increase my knowledge about democracy.

Another participant said:

Before coming to this workshop I did not know much about democracy. I always thought democracy was for foreigners and developed countries. I didn’t think we could have democracy in Afghanistan, but this workshop changed my mind. We can have democracy here too. I also learned the benefits of having democracy in the community. I thank AIL for giving me the chance to understand what democracy means.

We sincerely thank you for supporting our efforts. As you can see from the quotes above, these workshops are opening the eyes of participants to new ideas and possibilities. They are taking the lessons learned and sharing them with friends and family, making the impact of each workshop much greater than just the number of people in the workshop. Thank you for helping AIL in this effort.
