The Global Curriculum class has been recently implemented at our John Branchizio School in Port Au Prince. This extra-curricular program is a seventeen week class combining educational videos offered through National Geographic, followed by a question and answer session ending with an application of critical thinking skills through writing.
The latest film was entitled EGYPT THE SEC. This film raises the mysteries of the pyramids and the techniques used for embalming. It also explains the secrets of the pharaohs for centuries, about which archaeologists raise the veil.
The impact was positive where students asked extraordinary questions among which, Bien Aime Solandre a student in 12th grade asked: “Formerly there was no morgue to keep the dead bodies how did they proceed in those days?” The speaker responded brilliantly that the method used was the embalming with incense and it was the opportunity for students to combine social science theory and practice since they are studying Egyptian civilization (the Pharaohs and rituals of mummification).
The movie lasted one hour, the feedback is extremely positive. The enthusiasm that the participants are showing proves that such a program is much appreciated.
