Summer Greetings

Greetings from Kenya where we are headed into a short summer break.

The Kenyan school year is back on a January to November cycle after COVID-related disrputions interrupted the standard academic calendar for a few years. We are now headed into a two-week August break. While most of our students will spend the break away from school visiting relatives, our Class 8 students are remaining on campus to prepare for national exams this November. Under the guidance of our teaching staff, they will continue with class and study sessions to gear up for the national exam, known as the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), which is critical to determining secondary school admissions.

During this time, we are also exploring the potential to build new bathrooms with biodigesting toilets to improve waste management in a sustainable way and without relying on running water and plumbing.

On behalf of myself, our Class 8 students (pictured above) and the entire Margaret Okari primary school community, thank you for all you do to make our work in Kenya possible.

Wishing you a wonderful summer,

Kwamboka Okari,
Founder and Executive Director
