New dorm update

By MOCF | Kenya

New boys' dorm
New boys' dorm

Greetings from Kenya, where we are pleased to share we have nearly completed construction of a new boys’ dormitory (pictured above). We are now adding some final touches and constructing a new bathroom near the dorm but will soon move the ~90 boys who live at our school into the new building.

The new dorm represents a major improvement over the boys’ current housing, two prefabricated metal structures erected in 2009 that were supposed to function as dorms only temporarily but have housed all male students for the past 13 years. The prefabricated buildings are in declining condition and, more significantly, are at full capacity, constraining our ability to support additional students. The new dorm will allow us to provide a healthier housing environment for the boys who live at our school and enable us to expand our student body to include up to 120 male boarding students as time goes on (the same capacity as our girls’ dorm). After some repairs to the aging prefabricated structures, we will also be able to convert them into new classroom and office space.

Thank you so much to all who have contributed. And a special thank you to The Forgotten International, a San Francisco-based foundation, for your grant to help make this possible. We couldn’t have done it without you.

With gratitude,
The MOCF Team
