A four-day language learning and language teaching workshop was organised at the office of Khoj - Society for People's Education in Lahore. The founder of Khoj was the trainer. Ten children in grade two and two teachers attended the workshop. The main objective of the training was to invite the participants to reflect on the connections between speaking words, listening to the sounds of the spoken words, identifying the sounds in the spoken words, and building an understanding of how words are constructed phonemically. The presence of the teachers and the learners made it very interactive, and several in-situation issues could be taken up. Children could pick the idea on the very first day. Later, the linkage between the sounds and their written representations was built. It was an activity-filled and fun workshop.
Various activities by the school reading club complement and help children improve their language skills.
The availability of competent English teachers is a serious challenge. In response, a series of videos are used to help children and teachers with the spoken language. The strategy is bearing fruit.
The credit for all this work goes to you all! Without your support, we can't achieve much. We need your invaluable support to help us keep going.
