This project will build a mobile computer lab that will provide computer and digital literacy training to adult refugees and immigrants in Colorado. Teach by Tech will travel to community spaces throughout CO to provide customized workshops helping participants emerge with new technical skills. Courses will teach basic to intermediate digital skills using Microsoft Office Suite and Google accounts.
In nearly three decades, Colorado has welcomed over 45,000 refugees. The state gets about 2% of refugee arrivals nationally, and most resettle in the Denver metro area. Adult refugees and immigrants, especially those with limited English proficiency are lacking adequate digital literacy skills to effectively navigate learning tools, assist their children during remote learning, access community resources and/or compete in the job market.
Teach by Tech will provide access to devices and digital literacy training designed specifically for English Language Learners. With our mobile computer lab we will travel to the communities to provide training. All classes include hands-on learning and activities focused on practical skill development and building confidence in using technology.
This project will provide adult refugees with the necessary tools to compete in the job market, contend for promotions and ensure children are performing in school. With increased digital literacy skills participants will access resources, advocate for their community and engage in civic participation while promoting a more inclusive society.
