A very special guest speaker was present at Ashesi's historic 14th Commencement Ceremony. His Excellency Nana Akuffo-Addo, the President of Ghana, attended the ceremony to formally present Ashesi with a Presidential Charter, recognizing it as an independent degree-granting institution.
"It has been rewarding for all of us to see Ashesi grow into a world-class institution that is confident in its identity," said President Akuffo-Addo in his address to the 137 graduates and 1,500+ other members of the Ashesi community in attendance. "Congratulations to the Class of 2018 for being the first group to receive your certificates from your now, full-fledged university, under the authority granted by the Presidential Charter."
Ashesi submitted an application for a Charter in 2016, following the establishment of its engineering program. Following a rigorous review of Ashesi's finances, curriculum, governance, and staff qualifications, the charter was granted earlier this year before being formally presented at the Commencement Ceremony. Ashesi is the youngest university in Ghana's history to be granted the Presidential Charter, which recognizes its quality, strength, and impact on higher education in Ghana and abroad.
The support of donors has been vital in allowing Ashesi to reach this milestone. Thank you for being part of Ashesi University's growth!
