Educate Ethical and Innovative Leaders for Africa

total goal
monthly donors
Ashesi University empowers young Africans with the entrepreneurial skills and ethical foresight to be agents of change in their communities. All gifts will be combined to support Ashesi University's mission of educating ethical, entrepreneurial leaders for a new Africa. Our priority for 2015 is to raise $2.5M toward the construction of a new 96-bed student dormitory on campus. If Ashesi raises $500,000 by 12/31/15, the MasterCard Foundation will donate $1M in a 2:1 match.

Africa's educational systems, which often emphasize rote memorization, authoritarian teaching regimes, and do not encourage ethical principles, are failing to nurture the kinds of leaders who can build a brighter future. At Ashesi we cultivate within our students the critical thinking skills, the concern for others and the courage it will take to transform their continent.

Our major innovation is our curriculum, which is based on best practices from top universities but is designed to address the needs of the African context. Our practical majors in business and technology, combined with a rigorous liberal arts core that focuses on ethics, community service and creative problem-solving prepare students to thrive in Africa's complex environment.

Long-Term Impact

Africa has lost an estimated 1/3 of its professionals in the last 20 years. To prosper, Africa needs energized young Africans to stay and work for change. 100% of our graduates find quality jobs and careers after graduation and over 90% stay in Africa and help grow local and international businesses and start new enterprises. Over the next four years, Ashesi will grow to over 1,000 students, add new high impact majors and expand recruiting and scholarships to students from across Africa.
