Summary

Ashesi University empowers young Africans with the entrepreneurial skills and ethical foresight to be agents of change in their communities. All gifts will be combined to support Ashesi University's mission of educating ethical, entrepreneurial leaders for a new Africa. Our current funding priority is driving to 1,200 students by increasing scholarships and building more spaces for students to live, learn, and collaborate. Ashesi is seeking partners to continue to expand our impact in Africa.

Challenge

Africa's educational systems, which often emphasize rote memorization, authoritarian teaching regimes, and do not encourage ethical principles, are failing to nurture the kinds of leaders who can build a brighter future. At Ashesi we cultivate within our students the critical thinking skills, the concern for others and the courage it will take to transform their continent.

Solution

Our major innovation is our curriculum, which is based on best practices from top universities but is designed to address the needs of the African context. Our practical majors in business and technology, combined with a rigorous liberal arts core that focuses on ethics, community service and creative problem-solving prepare students to thrive in Africa's complex environment.

Long-Term Impact

To prosper, Africa needs energized young Africans to stay and work for change. The collective Ashesi curriculum and experience results in an average of 94% of alumni finding placement in careers, graduate school, or starting businesses within six months of starting their search - and 90% choose to stay and work for progress in Africa.
