Thanks to your generous contributions, Art Studio has educated, and empowered and healed at-risk youth in THREE local schools in addition to it's community location in the Little Haiti area of Miami, Florida. Through creative-holistic art forms such as painting, drawing, sculpture, theater, film, movement, mindful breathing, journaling, and more, our youth have learned about themselves, the environment, their community and each other.
Some highlights from the programs that YOU helped fund include:
Everything is Energy at Jesse J. McCrary Elementary School
led by Teaching Artist Ashley Cumberland
Fun Fact: This spring, students in this program performed a play about overcoming adversity, featuring characters, costumes, and scenery they created after studying elements of the periodic table. Science + art = fun! Art integration at it's best!
Film/Theater at Morningside Elementary School
led by Teaching Artist Anna Blash
FUN FACT: Zombies and dream machines gone wrong may sound like a plot for a horror movie, yet this film created by Morningside students demonstrates the power of friendship and community to turn even the scariest scenarios into a positive solution.
My Mother Planet Cartoon Creation at Miami Edison Middle School
led by Teaching Artist Estevan Acosta
and Miami Edison Middle School art teacher Ms. Hollifield
After a field trip to the Design District's 2nd Saturday, students were excited to create their own artwork for a professional gallery show. Their hard work paid off as their artwork was displayed at the Bakehouse Art Complex during the Art is Life event on June 10th
led by Teaching Artist Leda Almar
Fun Fact: In addition to creating beautiful prints and t-shirts, select students from this program were awarded scholarships to participate in Artoconecto's summer camp
