Three National Top10 Students From Leer!

By Ashantha Rubera | Program Officer

We were in South Sudan just one month ago. After our international flight was canceled and then our UN flight was canceled as well it felt like a long string of setbacks. Yet we still made it to South Sudan and traveled by local transport all the way to Leer. Our founder often reminds us that proximity is our superpower. When a small organization like ours chooses to take on big work, it’s because donors like you make it possible. Communities flourish not because of us, but because they feel seen, heard, and valued.

This is our third year providing school supplies to children in Leer, and the impact has been remarkable. School enrollment has increased dramatically, and this year three students from the schools we’ve supported for three years placed in the top ten in the entire nation. This is no small victory the whole Leer community is celebrating. To honor these achievements, we launched a scholarship program for seven top students, including those three. They are now in secondary school with a full scholarship covering everything from uniforms to school fees.

Thanks to your generosity, this year we provided school supplies for more than 4,000 children. This is an enormous undertaking, especially given the logistical challenges of transporting materials from the capital city to the nearest port via the Nile River. Our partners had to navigate multiple checkpoints, blockades, and negotiations to ensure the supplies reached the children safely.

The project is going well, and we are deeply grateful for your continued support. Thank you for believing in this community and for saying yes to educating children 9,000 miles away. Your support is creating real, lasting change.
