South Sudan is the youngest nation in the world and has endured years of civil war and devastating flooding impacting children throughout the country. Leer, South Sudan is a remote region reachable only by helicopter or boat and children here learn under trees in 100-degree weather without consistent access to basic supplies. Help us provide elementary school children in Leer with essential school supplies to support their education. Just $5 supports 1 child with supplies for 1 whole year!
According to UNICEF, floods in South Sudan and the ongoing civil war have affected over 750,000 people, diminishing access to education and basic services. Children have been most affected, with schools being destroyed and school supply lines impacted. Our mission is to provide a support network for children in Leer - an area cut off from aid during the rainy season, which is 6 months out of the year. Support them with essential school supplies.
Local teachers show their hope for the youth, often teaching outside in 100-degree weather with scarce school supplies. With your support, we plan to provide school supplies like stationary and exercise books to elementary-aged children who have been most affected by local conflict and flooding. These supplies will empower children to continue learning and will support teachers to continue their heroic efforts to educate the next generation.
South Sudan is experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. Communities have been traumatized by war, loss of homes, and the destruction of land. Educated South Sudanese will impact the long-term viability and prosperity of the country. This project will reach children and teachers each year and break the cycle of violence and joblessness through education. We also aim to promote reconciliation through teachings of tolerance and unity in schools.
