At present the HCC Rise Program has 80 students as of July 2023. The majority of our students live with surviving family members and are able to attend school through our scholarships. These 63 students are healthy, happy and doing well in school! Unfortunately, we do sometimes have cases where surviving family are no longer able to provide care. For these students we are able to place them in well vetted boarding schools, near their home villages, where they receive a good education and proper nutrition and medical care. We currently have 17 students in boarding schools.
HCC team visited Rasuwa/Nuwakot in the third week of May 2023 to meet three students from the program who are in boarding school. It was heartwarming to see their growth and progress. It's also great to hear that the school and hostels have been well-managed with proper facilities and hygiene. The positive changes in the students' behavior and their caring nature towards each other have been uplifting for everyone involved.
Providing the students with stationery supplies, personal care items, and clothes, including pants, a t-shirt, windcheater, shoes, socks, and school bags, was a valuable contribution, and the students were delighted to receive our support.
Additionally, it's worth mentioning that HCC has donated furniture, including desks, benches, and tables, to five schools in Benighat, Dhading. This will undoubtedly enhance the learning environment for the students and contribute to their educational experience.
Man* is 7 years old and is now in first grade at a rural boarding school. Man is still living at the school hostel with other HCC students. He likes his hostel because it offers him good food, a comfy bed, lots of friends to play with, and studying opportunities. During school breaks, he gets to spend time with his elderly father, who also visits him at the school regularly. His father has told us, “I am so thankful for your support. My son now gets to have a good education and be safe. I hope his life will be much better now.”
Man is a very smart and friendly kid, and he is always happy to see us when we visit Dhading. He is also very active and loves to participate in all the extracurricular activities at his school. His favorite hobby is playing sports like football. When he grows up he wants to be a police officer so he can help keep people safe. He says, “Thank you for helping me be in this school. I am very happy here.”
Overall, the program and the HCC team are making a positive impact on the lives of these students and their communities.
