Chibuike and his elder sister, Chiamaka, got a sponsor and joined the FLA Kids in January 2024. Chibuike was in JSS 1, whle his sister was in her final year. We settled their second term fees and Chiamaka's WAEC and NECO exam fees. They were invited to join us and their sponsors at our Valentine Luncheon in February, and it was a great opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of other children like them, who have moved from Disadvantage to Advantage.
When they were referred to us, we learned that the children had lost their dad, and their mom was left with the sole responsibility of taking care of them and their two siblings who were already in the University. They were struggling, but a kind sponsor showed compassion on them. The sponsorship really made a difference to their family. The children were encouraged and motivated, and it showed.
Chiamaka passed her WAEC and NECO exams, which she sat for in May and June respectively. She sat for the Joint Admission Matriculation Board exams and scored 266, a really good score. In October, Chiamaka got admitted to study Biotechnology at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, where she applied to further her studies. Chiamaka now needs a Big Brother to support her as she moves on to higher education.
Chibuike has also been doing well in his academics. He plays football with a local academy and also plays at school. He wants to be a Software Engineer when he grows up. He turned 12 in April and was selected to be among ten children from Fair Life Africa to attend this year's Bloom Christmas Party for children 13 and under. The Bloom initiative is a wonderful initiative where people donate to make sure that children less fortunate get to have a memorable Christmas experience. Several of our children have enjoyed these parties over the years, and Chibuike got a chance to attend this year.
The event held at Glitz Event Centre, Lekki, on the 14th of December. This year's theme was 'Owambe,' and instead of English clothes, the children wore African attire to attend the event. They got fabric sewn into clothes using their measurements, shoes, and funds to groom themselves, and even got their transport to the venue covered by the organisers. All they had to do was show up and have fun!
Emeke attended with the kids and reported that they arrived very early and had to wait before the event started. The children were excited and used the opportunity to bond and get to know themselves. They also took lots of photos. Many children from other charities and orphanage homes also attended to have a good time.
The event started by 12 pm. There was a dancing competition with a representative of each charity. Joy, who we wrote about last year, was crowned the winner! There were also singing performances, and little Chioma and Ramotu, two of our new kids, were among those who took the stage. The children were also invited to do some crafts. Eight of our children chose to paint on canvases and face caps, while two others chose to knit. Chibuike did a lovely drawing of ice-cream, which he painted on a canvas.
As the event went on, small chops and Chapman drinks were served. More food was served later, and the children were thrilled by the performance of a magician who did lots of different tricks. Before leaving, each child got different gifts for Christmas from Santa Claus, and we took more photos. As they left for their homes, they were all very grateful and happy. Chibuike found out when he got home that he got two long-sleeve shirts and puzzle games as his gift!
Chibuike is so happy that he has a sponsor to support him to complete his secondary school education minimally, and he is thrilled at the other advantages he now enjoys as part of the FLA Family. The support you give us ensure that we can take more children from Disadvantage to Advantage. Thank you so much!
We wish you and all your family a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year ahead!
