In Maiduguri, Nigeria, at the epicentre of the country's longest-running conflict, Orphan Academy educates and feeds 955 orphaned and displaced children every single day, many of whom would otherwise have nowhere to turn. Your gift helps us teach, feed, and protect these children daily, and build a permanent secondary school so none of them have to stop learning after Primary 6. 75% of our secondary students are girls - choosing school over early marriage, in a region where that choice is rare
According to UNICEF, roughly 2 million children remain out of school across Nigeria's Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, and 56% of displaced children in the region don't attend school at all. In Maiduguri, Borno State, 955 orphaned and displaced children currently depend on Orphan Academy for their only access to education and a daily meal. 120 of them are secondary students who sit on the floor without desks or books, and 75% are girls - who risk losing their education to early marriage.
Orphan Academy provides free, government-accredited education to 955 orphaned and displaced children, from primary through secondary level. Local teachers deliver a full academic curriculum every school day. On-site staff prepare and serve a nutritious meal to every child, every day. We are also constructing a permanent 15-classroom secondary school, expanding capacity from 120 to 1,000 students, so children have a guaranteed place to continue after Primary 6.
This project will educate and feed 955 orphaned and displaced children through secondary school completion, allowing them to build stable careers and support their own families instead of being lost to poverty or conflict. For the 75% of our secondary students who are girls, finishing school directly reduces their risk of early marriage, breaking a cycle that has limited generations of women in Maiduguri before them.
