The first few months of 2024 have been very procative for our girls and young women in Ndhiwa, rural Kenya. Thanks to invaluable funds from our GlobalGiving platform, we have been able to fund key project areas including: leadership advocacy, book clubs, STEM, and key emergency support.
On average 250 girls each month have participated in funded leadeship workshops and our book clubs are expanding with up to 410 members joining each month. Our community library is growing and funds have been invested in expanding resources to better equip our girls to learn. In STEM, numbers of girls attending classes now far surpasses their male counterparts, which is testiment to the girls determination and dedication to learn and the financial support generated from Team Kenya. GlobalGiving plays a vital part in the work in Ndhiwa and enables us to give girls an educated and empowered future.
To illustrate the impact of our work we look at Cess.
Cess is a resilient 19-year-old student from Rakoro village, whose educational journey has been marked by determination and perseverance. Starting her academic path at Rakoro Primary and a Member of the Girls Support Group, Cess excelled in her KCPE, scoring an impressive 335 marks. With aspirations for further education, she received partial sponsorship for secondary school through funds from Team Kenya supporting Twende Pamoja's Girls Education Support Fund.
Cess was an active participant in STEM Catch-up sessions which has further enhanced her academic skills and confidence, laying a strong foundation for her future endeavors. However, the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 brought unforeseen challenges. With schools closed for nine months, Cess's sponsorship was affected, disrupting her educational continuity. Despite the setbacks, Cess remained undeterred, determined to pursue her dreams.
Through her dedication and perseverance and support, Cess overcame challenges and achieved remarkable results in her 2023 KCSE exams, securing an impressive mean grade of A-. Noteworthy are her exceptional grades of B+ in Mathematics, B+ in Biology, B- in Physics, and A- in Chemistry.
Today, as Cess looks ahead, her aspirations remain high. With her strong performance in STEM subjects, she is determined to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Technology (Medical Laboratory Science). It is thanks to donations made to our 'Educate and Empower Girls in Rural Kenya' campaign that girls like Cess are able to fulfil their dreams in the most challenging of circumstances.
Cess extends heartfelt gratitude to the donors and funders for their unwavering support throughout her educational journey. Their generosity has transformed her life and empowered her to pursue her dreams.
