Educate and Empower 5000 Maasai Girls in Tanzania

By Cosmas John | Executive Director

Organization: Zion Gates Foundation
Reporting Period: January – September 2025

Project Summary:

Empowering Maasai girls through education, mentorship, and community awareness in rural Tanzania. Together, we are breaking barriers to learning and inspiring a new generation of confident, educated young women.

Progress and Activities
Since our last update in December 2024, the Zion Gates Foundation has continued advancing our mission to empower Maasai girls through education. Although we did not receive new donations via the GlobalGiving platform this year, we successfully implemented activities using our internal project budget of $3,000.

From January to September 2025, we distributed essential school supplies including uniforms, exercise books, and sanitary kits to girls in four villages across Simanjiro and Longido districts. We also organized three mentorship workshops connecting young girls with inspiring Maasai women leaders and teachers. These sessions helped participants build confidence, understand their rights, and set educational goals.

Impact and Beneficiary Story
This quarter, we directly supported over 320 Maasai girls who are now better equipped to stay in school and pursue their dreams.

One inspiring story is that of Naomi, a 14-year-old from Naberera village. Before joining our program, Naomi missed several school days each month because her family couldn’t afford supplies. After receiving school materials and mentorship support from our project, she is now among the top students in her class. Naomi proudly shared, “I want to become a teacher and help other girls like me stay in school.”

Stories like Naomi’s show how education can change not only one life but the future of an entire community.

Challenges and Future Plans
Our main challenge remains limited funding, which restricts us from reaching more remote areas where girls still lack educational opportunities. In the coming quarter, we plan to:
        •       Strengthen collaboration with local schools and parents’ committees to improve attendance and awareness.
        •       Prepare for the upcoming GlobalGiving Matching Campaign, to help raise funds for expanding our reach to at least 1,000 more girls in 2026.
        •       Continue documenting success stories and collecting high-quality photos to inspire and engage our supporters worldwide.

Closing Note
We are deeply grateful to all who continue to support girls’ education in Tanzania. Your contributions, encouragement, and belief in our mission fuel our determination to keep going. With continued partnership and visibility on GlobalGiving, we are confident that the dream of educating and empowering 5,000 Maasai girls will become a reality.

Together, we are creating change-one girl, one story, one village at a time.
