Every child has a right to learn, be protected, and have access to health services. Shines holds children's well being at the center of its mission by providing quality education to less privileged children. This is coupled with other projects including; menstrual hygiene management, ending child marriage and teenage pregnancies, environment conservation, and the development of a community library. By investing in education, we can end the cycle of poverty and create a prosperous community.
Although education is a global right, over 70% of children in rural Uganda lack access to even basic education. Poverty remains the main obstacle. A lack of trained teachers, poor learning environments, malnutrition, and inadequate materials limit learning opportunities. Many children lack literacy and health knowledge, leading to continued poverty cycles, with teenage marriages and pregnancies at alarming rates.
At Shines Children's Foundation, we believe education is the backbone of a community and are therefore adopting an intensive program focusing on a holistic approach to education and wellbeing. Our program provides education for advancement in literacy and family health, creates positive learning environments to foster growth, promotes eco-education for sustainable living, and advocates for child safety.
Giving children access to education improves literacy, fosters personal growth, and expands social and economic opportunities. It empowers them to make informed choices. By incorporating family and health education, we can reduce child marriages and pregnancies, helping young women stay focused on their education. When children are educated, they are more likely to invest in their own children's education. In turn, educated children contribute to a healthier, happier, and more thriving society.
