RFS provides vulnerable children from the slum of Kibera, Kenya, with the opportunity to attend a boarding school where they receive a quality education. Here they are provided an education along with three meals a day, clean water, medical care, a bed, uniform, and safety. "Most people look at the slum of Kibera and see a huge unsolvable problem. We see huge untapped potential."
The slum of Kibera is home to almost one million people, most of whom live in extreme poverty. Half of all Kiberans are under the age of 15, and only 8% of girls have the chance to go to school. Many children lack the opportunity to get an education because their parents are unable to support them financially. Children often do not have access to clean water, food, safety, and many children are victims of sexual assault and violence.
RFS educates and uplifts children living in extreme poverty by taking the children out of the slum and into boarding school where many problems are solved, holistically. At boarding school they are provided with education, nutritious meals, clean water, medical care, safety. RFS students become a family and help support each other through school. RFS strives to build confidence and self-worth among the kids, and encourage students to become leaders.
RFS encourages the children to reach their full potential by providing opportunity and access. We instill values such as; honesty, integrity, respect for others, self worth, confidence, good work ethic and teach them if they dream big and work hard, they can achieve anything! We empower and inspire them so they are free to act on their own beliefs, advocate for themselves and others and become leaders of their communities. Educate one child = change a village = change the world.
